WOODWAY, TX — The Woodway Public Safety Department said they received a report of credit card abuse due to a skimmer on an air pump kiosk.

They said the air pump kiosk was located in the parking lot of 7-Eleven on Woodway Dr.

Officers looked inside and found a connector wire had been removed from the back of the card reader. This meant a skimmer device had been placed on the machine but was removed prior to the officers' arrival. If you recently used this air pump with a credit card, police encourage you to check your statements and report any suspicious activity on your account.

These skimmers are most commonly bluetooth devices placed on the inside of machines such as this and gas pumps. A simple way to check for a device is to turn on your phone's bluetooth and check for bluetooth devices prior to swiping your card. A skimmer will often show up on a bluetooth signal as a long series of random numbers and letters. Of course the best prevention is to pay inside.
