The community came together Friday evening to mourn the loss of beloved University High School soccer coach Mike Chapman.

Chapman passed away Tuesday from a heart attack. He was 58-years-old.

Hundreds of people showed up at the visitation to pay their respects.

Chapman's family was thankful to see so many people support, respect and miss him. Assistant Coach Ricky Perez has known Chapman since he was a freshmen in high school and says this loss really hit home.

"He just impacted my life so much, and I think he did that not only to me but to a lot of people in the community. No matter what sport you played, Chapman took care of a lot of kids," Perez said.

University High School released a statement saying, "Mike was a highly respected and much loved coach. He was a positive role model and father figure to many. His generosity and kindness during the holiday season was a joy to witness as he blessed so many of our students through the Make-A-Wish program. Many of his former students work at University, as well as across the Waco ISD, and are truly grieving this devastating loss."

Chapman's memorial service took place on January 18th at 1:00p.m. at the Waco ISD Stadium.

Hundreds showed up to continue paying their respect as Chapman was honored for everything he did throughout his life.
