WACO, TX — The Waco Downtown Farmers Market (WDFM) is launching a new online store on Tuesday called Market in a Box.

The online store will give shoppers increased opportunities to pick up their favorite local market items.

The market has traditionally been available on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. But now shoppers can order their items online between Saturday and Monday and pick them up on Tuesdays between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

According to WDFM, the online store is one way the market hopes to meet its goal of providing increased access to local food while increasing sales for local farmers and producers.

“We’re trying something different, trying to capitalize on the technological aspect of the food system,” Erickson-Bruce said in a WDFM blog post. “There are actually a lot of aspects of online commerce for local food to explore.”

Once the new system is running smoothly, the WDFM hopes to expand the online store to offering all items available on Saturdays.
