WACO, TX — A lot of students depend on school meals to keep their stomachs full during the school year.
In fact, according to the Food Research and Action Center, during the 2016-2017 school year, 21.5 million low-income children participated in the National School Lunch Program on a typical day.
When school is out for the summer, families in need have more mouths to feed.
That means the demand for food is often greater at local food banks.
This Saturday the Waco community will do what it can to fight food insecurity through the Spring onto Summer Food Drive.
If you would like to participate, you can bring food donations to any Walmart, Sam's Club or Brookshire's location in Waco on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
