UPDATE: Bridge closure delayed in Valley Mills

UPDATE 9/23:
The 317 South Bridge will remain open until Friday, September 26 or Monday, September 29, and all road closure and detour signs have been removed in the area, according to the Valley Mills Police Department.

VMPD said TxDOT left the city Tuesday morning and more equipment is on the way before the 317 South Bridge can be closed down.

Demolition of the bridge is scheduled for October 13 and construction of the new bridge is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete.

ORIGINAL 9/18:
The Texas Department of Transportation will close SH 317 south of Valley Mills over the railroad starting on Tuesday, September 23.

The current bridge was built in 1954. The improve safety, the bridge will be widened to add shoulders.

TxDOT recommends drivers take the SH 6 and FM 185 detour while the project is ongoing. The City of Valley Mills says it could take up to two years to complete.
