KILLEEN, Texas (KXXV) — The Killeen Independent School District names lone finalist in search for superintendent.

The district's Board of Trustees voted unanimously 7-0 late Monday night to name Dr. King Davis as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.

In a press release from the district, Dr. Davis is referred to as an, "experienced educator known for a calm, steady presence" with the "ability to build trust in times of challenge."

District leaders said Dr. Davis "provided clear evidence" that he was a fit for the role during his time as interim superintendent which started back on August 11.

Dr. Davis released a statement following the announcement:

"I am deeply honored by the Board of Trustees’ unanimous decision last night to name me the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools.

Killeen ISD has a proud history and a promising future. We are a district that reflects the diversity, strength, and resilience of the families we serve. I understand the significance of this moment and the responsibility it carries. I step into this role with deep gratitude, humility, and a steadfast commitment to serve all children, staff, and families who call Killeen ISD home.

This is also a pivotal time for our district. We’ve faced difficult challenges that have tested our trust and unity. But I believe — with every conversation I’ve had in our schools and every classroom I’ve visited — that our best days are still ahead. We are a district full of dedicated educators, incredible students, and families who care deeply. Together, we have the foundation we need to rebuild trust, accelerate student learning, and create a culture where every voice feels heard and valued.

As interim superintendent, I focused on steadying our system and listening to understand. Now, after being named the lone finalist, I’m ready to move forward with the plans that will guide Killeen ISD into its next chapter — one rooted in academic excellence, transparency, and community partnership.

In the coming days, I’ll be sharing more about our vision and priorities for the months ahead. We’ll also provide opportunities for staff, families, and community members to connect with me directly as we begin this work together.

Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me and in this district. I am honored to serve you, to lead this team, and to work alongside each of you to build a stronger Killeen ISD — for our students, for our staff, and for our community."
