WACO, TX — Throughout the year, Cabela's Outpost offers a variety of free workshops to show kids some of the outdoor activities they can be a part of.

"I love it. I think the concept and idea is amazing and it's something for the kids to be outdoors," said Kandice Gant, a mother.

It's a concept Cabela's wants to keep alive for the children of today's generation.

"Nowadays, kids get consumed with games and are not open to outdoor stuff and this is what most kids need," said Gant.

Research published in the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, showed that 63 percent of kids in the United States spend over two hours a day in front of a screen.

"I think we are entering a crisis when it comes to kids on their phones at a young age. We are trying to prepare them for life outside of that so that they now there is an exciting world that is not on a screen," said Cabela's manager, Vincent Rapp.

And by preparing, he means free workshops throughout the year teaching kids outdoor skills involving shooting a bow and arrow, a bb gun and learning about camping, fishing, kayaking and other outdoor activities.

"We are trying to bridge that gap and introduce the next generation of outdoors for men and women," said Rapp.

Cabela's will have more workshops in the fall about hunting and much more.
