WACO, TX — Waco city officials are now taking matters into their own hands to get information out about the coronavirus to Waco residents.

City leaders say they’ve been getting a lot of calls and questions about coronavirus. That’s why during a Waco city council meeting, they felt it important to establish the facts.

Mayor Pro-Tem Andrea Barefield said she wants people to know that the City is on top of things, but the goal to keeping Waco properly informed is by having factual information addressed.

"With our health department in constant communication with the management office and constant communication with our communications team, we want to make sure that our citizens, our family is protected and taken care of, and taking care of themselves during this season," says Mayor Pro-Tem Andrea Barefield with District 1.

During the meeting, Brendan Gray, the Director of McLennan Public Health, broke down the efforts that the department is taking to keep the public safe. Dr. Gray reminded people to wash their hands and practice regular hygiene.

If you couldn’t attend the meeting but have questions of your own, the City and the health department have put together an interactive link with local coronavirus updates on the City website.
