MCGREGOR, TX — The REACH Therapeutic Riding Center is taking precautions after outbreaks of Vesicular Stomatittis in the area.

In a Facebook post. the center said there are currently outbreaks of the virus in the area.

VS is a contagious disease that affects horses, livestock, wildlife and even humans, according to the American Association of Equine Practitioners. The disease causes blister-like lesins on the tongue, mouth lining, nose or lips of horses.

In an effort to protect their horses and visitors, REACH is asking everyone to wash their hands before and after touching any horses or livestock. Visitors should also have a clean change of clothes and boots before coming onto the property.

If you are exposed to the virus or an infected facility that is on quarantine, you are asked to contact the REACH Equine/ Barn Manager.
