The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Rangers have arrested Crawford Police Department's Chief of Police.

Chief Clayton Bruton was arrested on August 20 and charged with felony tampering with physical evidence.

The police chief was transported and booked into the McLennan County Jail.

DPS says no other details are available at this time.

Chief Bruton has been the chief in Crawford since 2012.

A few years ago, a city councilman confirmed to 25 News the chief was almost fired by the council, but they didn't have the super majority votes to oust him.

The police force consists of only four officers.
