Public health district investigates 3 cases of whooping cough

MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX — The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District is currently investigating three cases of Pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

Pertussis is an infection that can affect airways. It can also easily spread from person to person by coughing or sneezing.

It can cause a severe cough that lasts for weeks or months. It could also lead to coughing fits and/ or vomiting.

Pertussis can be very dangerous for babies and people with weak immune systems. Family members with pertussis can spread it to babies.

Vaccinations are best to protect yourself from pertussis.
