WACO, TX — It's National Adoption Weekend and the Humane Society of Central Texas is ready for a great virtual weekend. For three days they will log onto Zoom, show off their dogs and cats available for adoption and even those in foster care.

Their goal is to reach double digits each day, the Zoom calls start at 11 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, they will feature the dogs and cats they have at the shelter and on Sunday those in foster care will be featured.

Staff won't be able to virtually interact much during the zoom call but there will be a text box you can use to ask questions.

It's also important to keep your options open and pick multiple dogs or cats you would want to meet.

"We like for people to really consider two or three different animals we can show them and that way they can really kinda compare and see which ones would be the best," Executive Director, Paula Rivadeneira said.

Since the Pandemic, adoptions and fostering care has increased at the shelter.

"We've been really fortunate to have a lot of foster families join us and the bonus of having those foster families is they actually help us to make animals more adoptable," Rivadeneira said.

The Humane Society has always been open but are not accepting visitors inside, instead, they have a curbside meet and greets.

"We're actually able to meet the families really understand what they're lifestyle is like and we can go in and we actually choose the best dog that we think will fit their family," Rivadeneira said.
