WACO, Texas — More than 50 boaters from across Central Texas gathered at the Lake Waco Marina to hold a 'boat parade' around the lake in support of President Donald Trump's re-election campaign.
The parade comes as Texas prepares for one of its most hotly contested presidential elections in recent history.
"This election is completely different," Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman said. "We look at this, and this is the most competitive elections in Texas in 20 years, and every single vote counts."
The parade lasted about an hour-and-a-half, as boats adorned with 'Trump 2020' flags and memorabilia traveled in a loop around the lake.
Several said participating felt like a civic duty.
"To see all the participation here helps me know that the silent majority isn't being so silent right now," Nancy Goebel, a Trump supporter, said. "So, I'm happy to be here to support our president and our country."
Dozens of onlookers stood along the shore of the lake to voice their support.
"It's like it's coming out of the ground," Goebel said "There's a lot of excitement for saving America."
The excitement and passion surrounding the 2020 election continues to grow in both major political parties as the nation moves closer to the November election.
Rahman said Democrats are seeing a similar surge in energy this year, despite only holding virtual events due to COVID-19.
"During the run-off twice as many Democrats voted as Republicans," Rahman said. "So, we're excited and we're energized and it's translated to the ballot box which is the important thing."
Supporters at the boat parade echoed Rahman's sentiment, saying they hope the rally inspires others in Central Texas to voice their support as well.
"It's your country. It's the way you feel about things," Goebel said. "It's your family, so be brave and show your support, no matter what that means to you."
Leaders from both parties continue to encourage people to register to vote. Registration for the November election ends October 5 in the state of Texas.
