WACO, TX — "Long Live Sakyra Young" is a song written by a classmate. The 21-year-old woman was killed nearly two months ago by her boyfriend.

Eddy Noble, artist, says writing this song was important for him.

"I wanted to take it upon myself to create something in the image of how I knew her and saw her," said Eddy Noble, friend of Young.

"She was the most down to earth person you can ever meet, stayed to herself, always quiet, never got into trouble. Something like that should not have happened to her or anybody," he said.

According to police, Young was shot and killed by her long-term boyfriend who is now in jail for her murder. Her family is not the first to experience such heartbreak. Kathy Reid with the Family Abuse Center says it happens more often than one would imagine.

"Each year here in Texas, we experience a lot of bodily injury and a lot of victims also experience death," said Kathy Reid, Executive Director of the Family Abuse Center.

For twelve years, Reid has seen it all and says it's about continuing to raise awareness and provide help to those in need.

"Here in Waco, we remember just in the last 6 weeks that we had another death and by the end of the year we will have more sadly. We are here so that victims, if they can get away, they have a safe place to go."

Reid says all services are free, for assistance just call 1-800-283-8401 or 254-772-8999.

Noble hopes the song, "Long Live Sakyra Young" will remind people of the cheerful and strong woman Young was. Watch the entire video here.
