SAN MARCOS, TX — Sympathy cards from Texans are being requested to show support to the family of fallen San Marcos police officer Justin Putnam.

Putnam and two other officers were ambushed by a lone gunman as they responded to a family disturbance call last week.

In a Sunday press conference, San Marcos interim Police Chief Bob Klett identified Justin Putnam as the officer who was killed at the scene. Putnam was 31 and had been with the SMPD for five and a half years.

“We lost a fine young man, a faithful officer and a friend,” Klett said of Putnam.

Two other officers, Justin Mueller and Franco Stewart, were injured and taken to Ascension Seton Hays in Kyle, where they underwent surgery.

The Lampasas Police Department received the following message, according to their Facebook:

Because of virus there will be very little attendance allowed at his funeral. We are asking you to join us to show your love and support for this hero in blue. Please take a minute and show Justin’s fiancée, his parents, and the San Marcos Police Department the true meaning of the “Thin Blue Line”, by sending a sympathy card to the below address.

Sympathy cards can be sent to:
