TEXAS — A 6-year-old girl battling cancer was officially inducted as an honorary Texas Ranger on Monday at the state capitol.

Abigail Rose Arias, from Angleton, Texas will spend the week serving alongside the Texas Rangers.

"She is a true testament to what it means to be brave," Texas Department of Public Safety said on Monday. "Her moral and physical courage serve as an inspiration to all Texans."

Two years ago, Abigail was diagnosed with a form of pediatric kidney cancer for which she has undergone numerous surgeries and chemotherapy treatments.

Abigail's dream is to become a police officer. After she volunteered her time handing out gifts to other children during the holiday season as part of Freeport's Blue Santa program, her dream became a reality.

Three weeks ago, Abigail was sworn in as an honorary officer of the Freeport Police Department, where she promised to continue fighting the "bad guys."

The House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature commended Abigail for her outstanding perseverance on Monday.
