HEWITT, TX — A train has derailed in Hewitt, Union Pacific confirms.

Central Texas News Now received reports of a train off of the track near the United Super IGA and Little Caesars Pizza on North Hewitt Drive on Wednesday at around 6:20 p.m.

"There is no danger to the public, and no hazardous materials spilled," said the Hewitt Police Department in a Facebook post. However, police say that local traffic on Warren, First Street, and Sun Valley at the railroad tracks will be closed for a few hours.

"At around 6:20 p.m., the train derailed one locomotive and one rail car upright, meaning their wheels came off the track," said the Union Pacific. The company also said there were no injuries or hazardous materials involved and that the cause of the derailment is under investigation.

According to a train operator who is not with Union Pacific, every Hewitt train crossing is blocked.
