WACO, TX — A local doctor says he's tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Tim Martindale runs the Martindale Family Medicine Clinic and says he tested positive for the virus Tuesday.

Martindale says his symptoms began April 5 at 6 pm.

This was more than 48 hours since he saw any patients or was in his clinic, so no one is considered at risk from being around him, according to Martindale.

He has also not been at either local hospital.

"I am taking care of myself well and have strong support from friends and family, said Martindale. "Currently my symptoms are fever and cough and aches."

Martindale's nurse practitioner partner, Jessica Beverly, will still be seeing patients by telemedicine throughout this week.

Martindale Family Medicine Clinic may open next week or the week after after a cleaning, Martindale said "but I will certainly miss this week and next, and will not return until completely cleared by my physician."

He does not know how he contracted COVID-19.
