WACO, TX — The Waco Fire Department is on the scene assisting Atmos Energy with a natural gas line that was struck by contractors at 3305 Chimney Place drive in Waco.

Four homes in the area were evacuated, and Waco Fire's HazMat team was going on site to help with the situation.

According to Atmos Energy spokesperson Tammie Bowman, a third party contractor that is not associated with the company struck through the gas line.

Officials on the scene said Atmos Energy has located the leak and is working to dig underground to shut off the gas line.

Atmost Energy's spokesperson said they are uncertain at the moment how long it will take to repair the line, but they are working with local officials to keep the area safe and repair the situation as quickly as possible.

Officials said they will turn off the gas line in the area for about 30 to 45 minutes.
