CRAWFORD, TX — While most of Central Texas is under a shelter in place order, some birthdays are going to look a little different this year.

One local neighborhood in Crawford didn’t let that rain on their parade.

On Friday, Tate Melton turned four years old.

Even though he couldn’t have his Spider-man birthday party, he got something even better.

“I contacted the lady’s in the neighborhood and I said, ‘We gotta do something. It’s his fourth birthday.’ We were all coming up with ideas and we decided we were all going to decorate our golf carts and just make it a fun day for him,” said Lee Fell.

Soon, a parade of decked-out golf carts, just for Tate, began making their way up the drive way.

“There were Christmas decorations, there were Fourth of July decorations, there were beach towels...there was all sorts of stuff. So it was just whatever you had, we decorated because we were gonna make it special,” said Lee Fell.

“I didn’t expect everybody to show up on their golf carts and they had them all decorated and just to know that they put forth effort, but they put their heart into it. People brought gifts! I had no idea. It was like the icing on the cake that he got all sorts of gifts from his neighbors so it was very emotional I think for everybody,” said Jill Melton.

The celebration didn’t just stop at the driveway.

People dropped off gifts in the mailbox and on the front porch.

“Just the outpouring of love that people have, and kindness and generosity. I mean that’s still out there, and we are very blessed to live in a community that did that for us and that’ll be something we always always remember,” said Jill Melton.
