City of Temple experiences 310K gallons of wastewater overflow

TEMPLE, TX — Recent storms and excessive rainfall have caused significant wastewater overflow in the City of Temple.

The city estimates the spill occurred on May 8 at 3 p.m.

Approximately 314, 520 gallons of wastewater overflowed into the Temple area.

The public is advised to avoid all contact with waste material, soil or water in the area potentially affected by the spill.

Locations of the spills:

  • 2501 Westwood Rd: Approximately 171, 000 gallons
  • 2402 S 61st: Approximately 143, 250 gallons

Areas that are potentially affected are:

  • Bird Creek between Westood Rd. and Bird Creek Dr.

The City of Temple notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, per regulation. Crews will remove debris and properly disinfect the affected area.

The city said the event in no way harmed its public water supply. City of Temple residents should not experience any interruption of water services.
