KILLEEN, TX — Police say a 5-year-old boy has died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head on Tuesday.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division, Special Victims Unit through there preliminary investigation found that the child obtained a loaded firearm within the residence and caused their own death, accidentally.
Autopsy results are pending and Detectives continue their investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The Killeen Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a shooting victim in the 4500 block of Alan Kent Drive on April 21 around 11:22 a.m.
Officers say they arrived on scene at approximately 11:25 a.m. to find a five-year-old unresponsive boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
EMS arrived shortly after the initial officers and all first responders attempted life saving measures on the child.
The child was pronounced dead at 12:03 p.m.
