Driver of semi killed after accident on Hwy 77 in Robinson

ROBINSON, TX — DPS is currently investigating a fatal crash in Robinson on Hwy 77.

Police said Hwy 77, 4600 block of S. Robinson Drive, just south of Rosenthal Pkwy is closed due to an accident involving a 18-wheeler and SUV.

A freightliner was traveling southbound when a tire blowout occurred. The freightliner lost control and crossed into the opposite lane of traffic crashing into the front left of a SUV.

The freightliner continued forward, leaving the roadway, overturned and became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the freightliner was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

There are power lines down in the area due to the accident. Oncor has been notified.

DPS, Robinson police and Robinson fire are on the scene.

Traffic is being diverted onto S. Old Robinson Rd.

Police are asking drivers to take an alternate route. They have suggested 434 and I-35 as alternate routes.
