A Texas bill filed on Jan. 25 would allow for the sale of liquor on Sundays in the state.
Beer and wine can be sold on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. so long as it is less than 17 percent alcohol by volume.
House Bill 1100, filed by State Rep. Richard Peña Raymond, D-Laredo, also proposes extending the sale of alcohol to start an hour earlier at 9 a.m. and end an hour later at 10 p.m. from Monday through Saturday.
Currently in Texas, when Christmas Day or New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, residents can not buy alcohol on the following Monday. House Bill 1100 aims to remove this section of the law.
If passed, the act would take effect on Sept. 1, 2019.
