A proposed cell tower at Abundant Life Church in Killeen has sparked concern among residents.
Abundant Life Church is looking to lease a portion of their property to build the tower, would carry T-Mobile service.
If approved, a 155-foot pole would sit in a residential part of the city.
“When you stick 150-foot tower up in the air just up in people’s backyard, it’s not like you’re not going to see it,” said Johnny Frederick, a nearby resident.
The Killeen City Council took up the matter Tuesday. They ultimately voted to table the issue after discussing the concerns. However, Titan Towers, the builder of the proposed tower, says they will still pursue the project.
Titan Towers explains they must follow specific space requirements to build. In this densely populated area of the city, they say the church’s lot is the only option large enough to provide the open space they need. Officials from the company also explained that there is a gap in cell coverage in the area.
“When you walk out in your backyard or your front yard, you’re going to look up and see that tower standing up in the air and it's there forever,” said Frederick.
