In a discussion about the migrant crisis, U.S. Senator John Cornyn, R-TX, stressed the importance of a long-term solution being bi-partisan.
“Before we leave, we do have to pass an appropriation bill to fund border security and the Department of Homeland Security, and our Democratic colleagues seem to come up with a lot of criticism but have no answer,” said Cornyn. He criticized Democrats, saying they do not see the impact of drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
“I do want to express my appreciation to Secretary Nielsen, Secretary Pompeo, and the Trump Administration for negotiating toward an arrangement whereby people who seek asylum in the United States can wait while their claim is being adjudicated in Mexico,” said Cornyn.
Cornyn says that there has been progress toward finding resolve through identifying that there is a problem.
“Of course, the best solution would be a bipartisan fix of what’s broken in our immigration system. That’s been rejected out of hand by our Democratic colleagues, and that’s regrettable,” he said.
