The Temple Fire Department and the Central Texas Housing Consortium practiced what to do if there is a fire in one of the high rise buildings in Temple.

A high rise fire drill took place at the Golden Haven Apartments on Second Street in Temple.

The executive director and the maintenance director are the only people from the Central Texas House Consortium that know that they are going to occur.

They try to make the drills as much of a surprise as they can.

"The chances of the incidents happening in these taller buildings, it’s pretty rare. But it lets us be familiar with what happens and the tactics we need to use whenever we go inside,” said Santos Soto of the Temple Fire Department. “Through drills like this, we are able to realize any deficiencies or anything that we have in our training that allows us to know what type of equipment we need to take into facilities like this.”

The fire department uses the drills to work on tactics that would be used in other multi-story buildings like the hospital and clinics.

The Central Texas Housing Consortium has three high rise apartment buildings in Temple and works with the Temple Fire Department to conduct fire drills at each building every year.
