Cowboys football academy visits Fort Hood

Posted

The Dallas Cowboys Organization celebrated its first-ever Salute to Service Week.

On Friday, former NFL players and current Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders visited Montague Village Elementary School on Fort Hood to encourage healthy eating and physical activity.

Luke Hequembourg said he knows a healthy lifestyle is important.

"I really want to be strong, and one day I want to play football," said Luke.

Luke and hundreds of other Montague Village Elementary School students participated in the Dallas Cowboys Football Academy.

"In partnership with the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 to teach these kids how to eat healthy and live active lifestyles," said Kashara with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Students learned how to build a healthy meal and went outside to play.

"We got to do an interactive video game, sort of walk them through exactly what needs to go on their plates, and we taught them at least 60 ways to be active for 60 minutes," said Kashara.

"Learned that it's important to eat healthy and play at least one hour a day," said Luke.

It was a message they hoped students would take home to their families.

"Sixty minutes of exercise is what each child needs every day, actually each person," said Joann Knox from Fuel Up to Play 60.
