If you see any snakes slithering around, remember to keep your distance.

According to the Padre Island National Seashore, a western diamondback rattlesnake was found five miles away down on South Beach. They said it’s a great reminder to keep an eye out anywhere within the vegetation line.

Seeing a snake within the park is rare and the western diamondback and the desert massasauga rattlesnakes are the only venomous snakes in the park.

You can tell rattlesnakes apart from most other snakes by the triangular shape of their head and, of course, the rattle.
