The state reptile of Texas will soon be venturing out to their new home.
The Dallas Zoo posted that 49 Texas horned lizards, also known as horny toads, had seen a population decline due to fire ants, habitat destruction and over-collection. The zoo's 49 hatchlings will be released at Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
The zoo hopes that the hatchlings could support a self-sustaining population.
