A tree and statue dedication took place at McLane Children’s Hospital to honor Christien Quiles on Friday.
Dozens of people from his doctors, family and community came out to celebrate the life of Quiles.
Quiles was a patient at McLane Children’s Hospital. He was only 18-years-old when he lost his battle to Osteosarcoma almost two years ago.
In 2016, Quiles asked as one of his final wishes to have a willow tree next to the playground outside of the McLane campus. A statue of an angel was donated as well.
Quiles may have not been able to see the hard work that came through the project, but his loved ones want to use his story and memorial to raise awareness about childhood cancer.
