The Department of Public Safety issued an official statement regarding the closures of driver license offices on Friday.
According to DPS, there is no implemented plan for mass closures of driver license offices across Texas.
As part of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission Staff Report of DPS from April, it includes the following:
“The department has not implemented plans to close or consolidate driver license offices with low demand.”
DPS developed a response that identified potential offices for closure and submitted it for consideration by the Sunset Advisory Commission. However, DPS will take no action on the recommendation without direction from state leadership and legislature, according to DPS.
The Sunset Commission will determine which recommendations are forwarded for their consideration beginning in January 2019.
