CTX sees increase in lost dogs after Fourth of July celebrations

Fireworks from Fourth of July celebrations, once again, have animal shelters across Central Texas filled to capacity.

Some dogs and other animals are sensitive to the loud booms and bright lights associated with fireworks, causing them to run away.

The City of Temple Animal Services picked up an entire day's worth of dogs within just a few hours on Thursday. The number of calls regarding missing pets surpassed the typical amount by 11 a.m.

"The website is updated every hour. So, watch those websites if you see a picture of your pet. You're also welcome to call or just come in and look around and see what we have," Walter Hetzel, the Director of City of Temple Animal Services, said.

Animal Services said the best way to stop your pet from running away is to keep them inside during firework shows and thunderstorms.

If your pet is missing, their picture may be posted online.
