A man was found guilty by a jury on Friday after he was accused of shooting a deputy in 2013.

According to the McLennan County District Attorney, Michael Alvarado was found guilty by a jury for one count of aggravated assault against a public servant. He is sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Alvarado was on trial for aggravated assault of a public servant, family violence and taking a weapon from a peace officer.

The incident happened back in December of 2013. A sheriff's deputy found Alvarado, who was a suspect in a kidnapping, in a storage facility on Baylor Street.

Alvarado attempted to escape and shot at deputies, hitting and wounding Lt. Johnny Spillman.

The jury heard from several witnesses Wednesday, including emotional testimony from Spillman, who was shot in the upper thigh in the incident.

The bullet from the incident had remained lodged in Spillman's legs for months after the incident.

Alvarado crashed his truck and was arrested at the scene.
