Waco police have seen an increase in burglaries of cars and are asking the public to avoid these "crimes of opportunity" by locking their vehicles and hiding valuables.
The police department's burglary and auto-theft unit have seen an increase in suspects entering unlocked vehicles, stealing purses, wallets and loose change/money. Suspects are also stealing vehicles that are left in their driveway and at local businesses since keys are being left in cars.
Detectives say that two-thirds of the thefts are because keys are being left inside vehicles.
Waco police said to avoid these problems, follow these tactics:
- Lock and Hide
- Take the Keys
- Take Action (Call if you see suspicious activity)
