The Department of Health Services has examined the dead bat the Hay County Sheriff’s Office received on May 11, and said it tested positive for the rabies virus Wednesday morning.

The bat was found at 10 a.m. in the grass of the 100 block of Canterbury Dr, located within the Belterra Subdivision. The sheriff’s office said if anyone has had contact with the bat to call the animal control unit at (512) 393-7896.
