College Station Police are investigating a potential hate crime at an Islamic community center.
Less than a day after Muslims at this community center prayed during the end of Ramadan, someone fired shots into its entryway.
Police say it’s too early to call this a hate crime but say they brought in the FBI because they have a farther reach and more resources.
It all started around 4:30 a.m. when police received a call from someone who said they had heard several gunshots in the 400 block of Stasney Street.
Officers searched the area and discovered bullet holes, a broken window, and other damage to the Islamic Community Center.
A total of five bullets were found but investigators say there could be more.
Nimrah Riaz has been going to the mosque for 23 years and says it is her second home.
News Channel 25 spoke with a youth leader who said that the community center often has overnight lock-ins for local children and were grateful that no one was injured.
