Dallas man bites deputy, barricades himself inside local motel

Posted

A man is police custody after an encounter with Dallas law enforcement escalated into an hours long swat standoff.

Investigators say the suspect assaulted a Dallas County sheriff’s deputy around 4 p.m. on Saturday. He was being questioned about shoplifting from a local Walmart at the time of the incident.

Arrest reports show that the man went as far as biting the deputy and even tried to take his gun. But when he failed to do so, the suspect ran away.

The deputy then chased the man to the Lamplighter Motel about a mile away, where the suspect barricaded himself inside.

Dallas SWAT crews were called to the scene, and around 8 p.m. they were able to get that man out, using flash bangs and gas.

Officials say the suspect was checked out by paramedics and is okay.

That man is now facing charges for assault on a public servant and attempting to take a firearm from an officer.

The deputy that was attacked suffered a few minor injuries, but is expected to recover.
