West ISD received a donation of $11,532 from a charitable non-profit on Wednesday. The ATPE Foundation donated the money to assist in the rebuilding of West ISD after the fertilizer explosion.

Representatives from the Association of Texas Professional Educators traveled to West to present the check to West ISD assistant superintendent Dr. Jan Hungate and West Elementary School intermediate principal Rob Fleming at the school.

Most of the money came from educators from across the state and the money will be used in the rebuilding efforts of West ISD schools, including the purchase of classroom materials.

"Educators help educators," Hungate said. "That is such a statement to who we are as educators. We come to each other's aid no matter what the situation. Teachers have been here teaching kids everyday despite their own personal challenges with recovering from the explosion. This makes me proud to be an educator."

The ATPE continues to receive donations for West ISD and will make plans to send an additional check to the district.
