DES MOINES, IA — Video shows a mother tossing her children out of a window from a burning video in Des Moines, Iowa.
A mother and her three children were trapped after a fire erupted in their apartment building. The building was in flames, and they were on the third floor.
Police worked quickly to save the family. In the video, you can here the officer tell the mother, O’Sheana Harrison, to get her kids by the window.
All of the children were under the age of three.
"When I opened the door, it was like a wall of thick smoke," Harrison said.
Harrison was out of choices; she knew she had to throw her children out the window in order to get them to safety.
"He was like you got to trust me, and I don't trust nobody with my kids but at that point in time all I thought was I had to get them out," Harrison said.
The officers tried to comfort the kids until they could rescue their mom.
"You guys want to go sit in the car and stay warm? Hi, honey how are you? I will keep you warm. Let's turn the heat on, alright? Your mommy is going to be ok," the officers tell the children in the video.
The family was able to escape the fire unscathed, and the four officers are being hailed as heroes.
"I cant say thank you enough to them. I owe them the world because they saved my world," Harrison said.
The officers are Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Casey Sanders and Tyler Kelley.
Meanwhile, officials said the fire remains under investigation.
