The Girl Scouts is encouraging parents to not force their daughters to hug someone, especially during the holidays.

This time of year, it is pretty common to hear parents telling their children to hug someone as a way of saying hello or thank you.

The organization says this act can "set the stage for [the child] questioning whether she "owes" another person any type of physical affection."

Girl Scouts is encouraging parents to give their daughters space to decide when and how she wants to show affection.
