GRANDVIEW, WV — As firefighters in West Virginia battled a massive church fire, they were shocked to discover not a single bible was burned.

The Coal City Fire Department said they assisted with a fire at the Freedom Ministries Church that was at one point so hot, firefighters had to back out of the building.

“In your mind, everything should be burned, ashes. Not a single bible was burned and not a single cross was harmed,” the fire department said in a Facebook post.

The fire department shared photos of the piles of bibles surrounded by the rubble as well as a cross that continues to hang.

No firefighters were injured while responding to the fire.

“Though odds were against us, God was not,” the fire department said.

The church has since promised to continue to worship as they rebuild.
