Father and two young children swept away by wave on shore

The U.S. coast guard has called off its search for a child off the coast in Oregon.

A father and his two young children were swept out into the ocean. The girl died, and the boy has not yet been found.

Crews started searching for a father and his two children in the area of Falcon Cove.

Oregon State police say the man was standing on the shore holding his children when they were swept up by a wave.

The man and his 7-year-old daughter were brought to shore by the coast guard and then taken to the hospital.

The 4-year-old boy wasn't found.

The 7-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

We don't know her father's condition at this point, but he is expected to survive.

The tragedy serving as a deadly reminder of how dangerous the coast can be during the winter months.
