SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Eating out in California can be a "green" experience.
Many restauraunts in the Golden State are getting set to add a surcharge aimed toward combating climate change.
The extra fee is optional and was introduced at a San Francisco Chinese restaurant.
Restaurant owners say the price hike offsets its carbon footprint.
"If 1 percent of restaurants in California participated in this program, that would generate $10 million towards healthy soils," said Anthony Myint with Perennial Farming Initiative.
The Restore California Renewable Restaurants Program, which is statewide, is expected to start this fall.
