NASHVILLE, TN — A Nashville memorial dedicated to veterans has been destroyed because of speeding vehicles.

The historical memorial was first put up in the 1930s to honor the area’s veterans.

"It was first dedicated to the first world war, then the second world war." said Anthony Viglietti, founder of the group Friends of Riverside Drive.

"This base was parallel, or perpendicular to the street…I couldn’t believe it. I was just devastated."

Viglietti says he found the 90-year-old memorial face down in the mud.

He suspects speeding is the cause of damage.

"In the past few years, this has become a raceway," said Viglietti.

"Its going to take quite a bit to put it back the way it was."

He hopes drivers will slow down and honor the veteran memorial.
