WACO, TX — Central Texas students were honored Thursday afternoon as they prepare for the 2019 National History Day fair.

Middle and high school students, who placed first and second in the regional and state fairs, are eligible for the national fair.

Six students will be heading to Washington D.C. to compete this June.

Each student was awarded a travel stipend from Waco Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation.

The students received the stipend for their winning categories in world history, making the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair proud.

"Coming to this event today to see them recognized, and to see them supported by their local community, is a very big day in the calendar year for me," said Steven Sielaff, board president of the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair. "It's one of the reasons why I'm proud to be on the board of the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair."

The teachers who will accompany the students to National History Day were also presented with a monetary award by Educators Credit Union.
