WHITNEY, TX — A Whitney ISD middle school student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Whitney ISD notified parents on Sept. 7 that a student at Whitney Middle School has been lab confirmed with COVID-19.

The student was last present on campus on September 4, according to the district.

The district had previously announced a positive case for Whitney Middle School back in August.

Whitney ISD is working closely with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the county health departments.

They will be conducting a case investigation and WMS staff will contact any individual determined to be in close contact with the infected student.

Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus and reduce the chance of spreading the virus.

Staff will also be sanitizing and disinfecting the areas associated with the infected student before school begins tomorrow.

The district asks parents to watch for symptoms of COVID-19 and to contact your physician if symptoms are noticed.
