This week, Sport Clips Haircuts headquartered, in Georgetown, Texas, presented the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation with $1,026,105 to provide scholarships for service members and veterans.

“We were a little bit apprehensive this year with the pandemic. Last year we raised about $1.25 million. This year we set a goal for a million and we made it,” said Sports Clips Haircuts Founder Gordon Logan.

The company has been making donations through their Help a Hero Program since 2013. The money will give student veterans who qualify up to $5,000 per family per semester. Applicants must be separated with or currently hold a military rank of E-5 or below.

Many, like local student veteran Brandy Davidson, say the money is big help.

"It’s not as easy as it sounds. Just because you're prior military doesn’t mean that you can walk right into a job. Sometimes you do have to go back to school so that you can reinvent yourself,” said Davidson.

The student veteran says finding money to pay for college is tough, especially as a single mother of two. She says the money can help buy books or even help out with other expenses.

“It helps out with a lot of things, like gas. Even if I have to not work and go to school full-time, it will help out with some expenses around the house," said Davidson.
