LAMPASAS COUNTY, TX — A possibly intoxicated driver traveling on the wrong side of the road crashed into another car, killing a 24-year-old passenger.

Around 1:18 a.m. on June 2, Texas DPS Troopers responded to a major crash involving two vehicles on US 183 north of Lometa.

Authorities say a 2009 Toyota RAV4 SUV, driven by 55-year-old Stephen Jacob Bradley of Killeen, was traveling northbound on US 183 on the wrong side of the road. Other motorists had reported the vehicle to authorities moments before the crash for reckless driving.

A 2017 Kia Optima, driven by 25-year-old Rashaun Elijah Gibson of Copperas Cove, was driving southbound on US 183 when it collided with the RAV4 head-on, causing major damage to both vehicles.

Two passengers were inside the Kia Optima at the time of the crash. A 21-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries but refused treatment. The second passenger, 24-year-old Zyrie Dvonte Armstead of Copperas Cove, was killed in the crash and pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Camron Brister.

DPS says a crash investigation is still open and toxicology reports are pending. An investigation revealed that Bradley may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
