WACO, TX — Before you rush out to do Black Friday shopping, you may want to slow down when you're cleaning up from Thanksgiving.
O&J Superior Plumber owner Jeff Tesar says this time of the year is pretty busy for plumbers, as people too often people toss all those unwanted scraps down their garbage disposals.
"People try to put half a turkey down a garbage disposal... They take a half a casserole and try to throw it down there," says Tesar.
Tesar says about 90 percent of his business these next few days will be from Thanksgiving mishaps, potato peals and grease poured down the drain are the biggest offenders.
"Everything in moderation, and you need to run a lot of water." says Tesar
But garbage disposals aren't the only victims of Thanksgiving neglect.
Tesar says with extra family in town, you never know what will end up down the toilet.
"I've found toys in toilets... I've found rings... I've been doing plumbing for almost 30 years, I don't think anything surprises me anymore." says Tesar.
He also says not to flush wet wipes. They can overwhelm old plumbing, and if you combine that with waste, your plumbing is likely to back up.
"If you can imagine your worst smell in the world, it's probably that. Because when you have that kind stuff coming up, it's not a pretty sight," says Tesar.
